Rangers and Blue Jays Comparison (Last Updated May 10)
Pos. Ranger Blue Jay Edge Comments
OF Ryan Christenson Shannon Stewart Stewart might be one of the most overlooked players in baseball. In 5 full seasons, he has hit over .300 in 4 of them. He is a guy that you can expect 20/20 from. He is also a doubles machine and a very good defensive right fielder. Very similar stats to Ranger great Rusty Greer, with more speed. So far this season, Stewart is hitting his usual .315, and he already has 16 doubles. The jury is still out on Christenson. I hope that he can turn into a legit big leaguer, but 4 team changes in 4 years has me wondering.
OF Carl Everett Vernon Wells
Push
When I first was considering these two I was leaning towards Everett. But after looking at the stats, reading expert opinions and considering the future, I am leaning toward Wells. Due to the indecision, I'll call it a push. Maybe because of playing in big markets or being such a nut, Everett has gotten a lot of publicity. And I question if it is all deserved. In 10 season he has only had 100 RBI's twice. He deservedly made the All-Star team in 2000 and has also just hit over .300 twice. The last two seasons, he has hit .257 and .267. He always has twice as may K's as walks and in 2001 he had 4 times as many strikeouts. He never was a big stolen base threat, but he has gotten too big and too hurt to be a good outfielder. Vernon Wells on the other hand is really only in his second full season. He once was regared as the Blue Jays top prospect and just signed a large contract to be their center fielder of the future. Wells hit only .275 last year but did reach the 100 RBI plateau. His .457 slugging percentage is not the best we will see from him, but Everett only bested that mark 3 times. Wells hit 23 homers last year, but Everett's career high have been 34 and 25. And finally Wells has been regarded as one of the best defensive center fielders in the league. This season both players are off to incredible starts. Wells leads the league in RBI's and Everett leads the league in slugging percentage. I have one final way to look at this. Even with the great start I dont think that the Rangers could get much in a trade for Everett and I bet that many clubs would love to have Wells.
OF Juan Gonzalez Frank Cattalanotto Maybe this is not as close as I am making it, but I admit that I am a little biased. You can not argue with Juan's MVP's, HR's and RBI's. There is something to be said for a guy like Cat who can will be in the top 10 in average every year and can hit to all fields. Both are having good starts to the year, but you have to give the edge to Juan because of the power numbers.

SS Alex Rodriguez Chris Woodward I am not going to waste your or my time with an indepth comparison. However just FYI, in 7 full seasons A-Rod had 295 homers. I will go ahead and say it: Look out Hammerin' Hank (or maybe Barry Bonds).
